War Storm
⭐1.5
** spoiler alert ** I don't think ever happened that the book pissed me off right on the first page. But here we are, just opened War Storm, and closed it on the first page....
First we get:"I will not be a red queen." & then " I suppose Cal has no idea, no inkling, that the Scarlet Guard and Montfront have absolutely no intention of letting him keep whatever throne he wins. (...) And I suppose I shouldn't call him Cal anymore."
What the hell bitch? Are you f*cking kidding me? Did everyone just forget the title of the series? I hate it, despise every word from Mare & Farley.
The first two books (even a bit a third) was great! I Loved the idea of the story, the characters... than its just started to going down hill... and its ended in a great disappointment...
So many overly described useless facts about irrelevant people and places that I wanted to burn the book. Just so much unnecessary page fillers. The battle scenes were never ending and boring. Honestly, if the series would be shortened to a trilogy, just keep the relevant information, it could be great!
Mare
I just simply cannot stand her dramatics and self pity... Her self importance is reached a new level in this (and previous) book. How the hell she can be in so important role in a whole f*cking movement? She in untrained, unschooled, have no idea of the politics or the royals, she is unstable, not even the first or the stronger newblood and not to mention hysteric, barbaric, arrogant, proud (on nothing), selfish, hard headed to a point of being stupid with absolute no common sense, who just running around and basically doing nothing beside whining and complaining ( I can't believe how the writer ruined her after the first 2 books). All she care is herself. Literally nobody else (in previous book she would send his brothers back to was just because they could be useful for her). And in the finale who get her happy end? Who is basically the only person get everything she want? Well of course our Miss Perfect Mare Barrow...
It was a miracle I even finished the series just because of her...
Maven
Oh Maven you little cunning SOB! I loved him. He was my true main character for sure, and I'm so disappointed how tiny attention she get through the series. I can't believe how terrible and anticlimactic was his capture and the finale with him... After all we/he get through the series, how his mother ruined him, his emotions and struggle, the way he was thinking with his mother still in his head... My poor boy king get THIS ENDING??? Just that lost another star in my rating.
Cal
Oh I loved our sweet naïve king to be, but he was really bad in making decisions (especially in Mare...WHY?) He deserve so much better... he lost everything. His parents, his brother, his crown and kingdom, his legacy and he was still strong, and what he get at the end? NOTHING... even Mare left him because the bitch need time for herself (AGAIN) and she think she know Cal better than he know himself. Mare was constantly asking him to choose her, and when he did, she left him, with " I won't ask you to wait for me".... Repeat myself: HE DESERVE BETTER. Even if his ideas had flaws, I was still rooting for him.
Evangeline
Well in this sh@t storm she was my only ray of sunshine (well, beside Maven of course). Without her POV it would be much more chance that I not even gonna finish the series. Sassy Steel Queen, but her love for his brother and Elaine makes her lovable even more. How she always pissing of Mare, how she make her choices, and how she pushing Mare & Cal together is made me smile.
Cameron, who was basically one of the main character in previous book, well she is completely out of the picture (what's the reason she get so much attention before when they just forget about her now?) Oh, and Kilorn is the exact same... But we needed to suffer through Iris's POV... just great....
FINALLY we get a POV from the Calore brothers as well, but I expected more from it...
All together I expected more about the story... C'mon, the book was more than 600 pages and it was filled with nothing... It was supposed to be the big exciting ending, and that's what we got? The finale was wrong, like really wrong. Compare to how I loved the beginning, its just not worth
