King's Cage
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Manipulation, war, politics, survival, hope, trust... This book have everything and more. I needed this.. after the first 2 books, I needed to know more about Maven. Yeah, sure, he is the villain blah blah, leave me alone. The parts when he was talking about his childhood, how her mother the Bitch Queen treated him from when he was just a baby... my heart broke for him (always had hope for him, now even more). Little broken, fragile, ruined Boy King... I really hope he will get some 'normal' ending. He does not deserve a cruel end. Not in my eyes.
As with Mare... well she kind of annoyed me, a little too much inner monologue and really too much self pity. I loosing her a little more after each book. Who is surprised me, was Cal. In good and bad as well. I loved him in the camp, but his decision making is the worst.
So before when I was constantly complaining that the book is written only from Mare's point of view, what we have in here is not what I wanted either. So instead of some key figure from previous books, we have here and there a couple chapters from freaking Cameon's view... Like REALLY???? Hoped that will make more sense deeper in the story that WHY we get her point of view from the Camp, and not someone more interesting or relevant (Kilorn, Farley, Cal, even Julian or Sara...)
BUT a very positive surprise was Evangeline! I loved that we can see through her metals shields. That's what I was missing!!!
I have a clue where this all is going (not sure because we had some pretty wild twists in the story until now), but I have a feeling that in the end I will l be deeply disappointed, angry or in tears...
