It was brilliant!
Mare is easy to like compare to some other heroines. Even if she made mistakes, her choices seemed real, and not eyerolling teenage hysterics. Loved how she always tried to protect her family, she did everything for them. I wish there is more Shade in the story. Loved her father, but somehow Gisa seemed a bit off to me, no really liked her.
The royal family... Cal and Maven... I was so torn between the brothers in the whole book!!! Dan you Victoria Aveyard! Deep inside I knew one of them has to have a big secret that will turn the whole story, but somehow I was rooted for both of them... It doesn't even make sense, you must like one of them a bit more, but I couldn't choose. Well, the ending should make it easier, but damn my heart is still bleeding for my 'mini Darkling' (but not giving up any hope - and now I'm torturing myself...).
Some of the side characters are also great, l loved Shade, Julian & Lucas!
Oh and the villains... Holly crap how much I hated Queen Elara & Evangeline! (VA sure know how to create a perfect prince and a perfect bitch). Also I don't know why but I don't like Kilorn & Farley... I know they supposed to be a heroes, but...just something is irritating me in both of them...
Anyway the story is great, the characters are loveable, the world build is exciting! It was always happening something, and that plot twist at the end was something phenomenal! A perfect YA fantasy!
