A Deadly Education

I wanted to start with a good points in the book, but hard to found any. The set up sounds amazing and I was so excited for this one! The idea of a dark magical school had so much potential! BUT the world building came out dry and the story was kind of emotionless... The book had way too much inner monologue for my taste, sometimes over descriptive and boring. It needed effort to go through the book. The main character El annoyed me from the first page. I don't mind that's she is rude & sarcastic, but mind that she is egotistical, selfish, obnoxious and all together an unlikable character. I was hopeful that she will get though some character grow, but she insists to stay that way. The rest of the characters were flat and forgettable, I would probably enjoyed more if the book had Orion's point of view as well.

It started weak, and the more I read, the less excited I became. At the end I was reading and skimming because I reached the point where I just wanted to finish. The book did ended with a relatively good cliff-hanger, and would like to know what's happening next, but I don't think there is any chance I will pick up the next one.
The biggest torture in a book was for me to get through the never ending fight with the maw-mouth... In first 5 pages was 30x mentioned/repeated the same word... The writer often used big words (like let's google how to write a simple thing with the most exaggerated word) but couldn't found a different way to describe the monster just by repeating itself name?

All together the story of the book had a good potential and a very bad execution with an unenjoyable writing.
